Peggy Quince
Peggy Quince, the current Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court, holds a position of great responsibility and power, and has consistently used that position to usurp the rights of fathers and to abuse children. Quince was a token appointment to the District Court of Appeals and was further elevated to the SCOF in a move that smacks of political expediency.
Qunice has always been her own best spin doctor in her efforts at self-promotion. She has regaled audience after audience with her homespun tales of growing up in poverty and being 'forced' to attend segregated schools (we find this rather comical, Peggy - isn't the converse true ? Weren't white students equally 'forced' to attend segregated schools ?) Are you inferring that all black faculties are incapable of providing quality education to their students ? You seem to have done OK. When integration was achieved she chose to remain in an all black school, a harbinger of the incipient racism that continues to this day. Her tales of childhood poverty also lack the ring of truth - her father, variously described as a 'laborer' or 'longshoreman', worked at a Navy facility under union pay scale. She talks of the study ethic imposed by her father, who would not allow the children to watch television until their homework was finished....incredible, absolutely incredible, such a hardship - this writer is three years younger than Quince, but did not suffer from that hardship - we were too poor to have a television, and indeed, most of our neighbors were without electricity. Poor, poor Peggy.
This double standard is evident in her personal life, and one that has affected her husband and children as witnessed by her husband, attorney Fred Buckine, speaking at a Florida Bar diversity symposium in May, 2006:
"When someone comes before you to expect justice, there is an element of confidence and fairness when that person who is administrating justice looks like you," Judge Buckine said. "We had a young man come in and we had a black magistrate, black bailiff, black court reporter, black guard, and when the white defendant was brought into the courtroom, he starts screaming and struggling and said that this is not fair."
What the white defendant was doing, Buckine said, was processing the circumstances through his mindset of how he determined fairness.
"That's why diversity is essential in the judiciary," Judge Buckine said, noting also that it is politics that determine the makeup of the judiciary.
It seems that Fred and Peggy like 'diversity' as long as they're on the receiving end of it. One wonders whether or not this love of 'diversity' extended to the raising of their children ? We only need to look at their daughter Laura's FaceBook page and search her friends - there seems to be a marked lack of white faces in her friend's list...what is the problem, Laura, didn't they teach diversity at home when you were growing up ?
